THE KNEE DEEP CLUB

The Knee Deep Club is a not for profit organization aimed at improving the fisheries of New Jersey's largest lake, Lake Hopatcong. The club was established in August of 1946, and the first meeting was held at Spencer's Bait Shop (now the site of the NJ Marine Police), in Mount Arlington, NJ. Herb Spencer happened to be the first president of the Knee Deep Club. Over the years, membership has maintained at approximately 1,000 people. We now meet on the second Friday of each month at 8:00 P.M., at the Hopatcong Civic Center, on Lakeside Blvd in Hopatcong. The club distributes a monthly newsletter from January through October, where members can stay informed on such events as our trout stockings, fish habitat improvement projects, our yearlong fishing contest, monthly fishing contests, and several worthy events for the children, on and around the lake. In June of each year, we have our annual Jr. Derby and outing for handicapped children from the area, which has been held at the Mount Arlington Pond, for the past 45 years. The club was also instrumental in the creation of the legislation which formed the Lake Hopatcong Commission, through our "Save The Lake 2000" campaign. For more information on the club, and how to join, please go to our web site at www.kneedeepclub.org
